"Honoring Hasan Fathi: Traditional Methods, Contemporary Spaces"

This cultural forum and cafe, located in the Harat Al-Mathloum area at historical Jeddah, adjacent to the headquarters of Sami Angawi Architects (formerly Amar Center for Architectural Heritage), is a single-story building designed and constructed using traditional Islamic building techniques and methodologies, including the use of vaults and domes. The project aimed to create a model that reflected the ideas and philosophies preached by the late Hasan Fathi. By using local materials and craftsmen, Dr. Arch. Sami Angawi sought to revive the dying craftsmanship in the Hejaz area. Dr. Angawi also demonstrated how the use of local knowledge could result in low-cost architecture that is harmonious with the surrounding environment.
